Court Attorney

Research and analyze complex and difficult legal issues and questions as they pertain to matters within the jurisdiction of County, Family, and Surrogates court. Responsible for legal research and writing on various matters, working directly for the Seneca County Court Judge.  Also responsible for facilitating conferences to negotiate pending matters as well as research and writing related to issues of law pending before the Court.

Seneca County, Waterloo, NY

Assistant District Attorney

Prosecutorial responsibility for matters ranging from traffic violations, to misdemeanors, and felonies. Strict adherence to timelines and statutorily prescribed deadlines. Also performed appellate work for appeals pending before the Fourth Department.  Handled matters in various courts and provided feedback and analysis on new and pending matters within the DAs office.


Second Assistant County Attorney

Responsibilities included: family court, juvenile delinquency, support proceedings, and persons in need of supervision proceedings. Legal research and writing in the field of general municipal and county law as well as contract formation and review, and Freedom of Information Law requests. Additionally tasked with research and analysis on various legal matters both in transactional matters as well as pending legal issues which arose from or related to the Board of Supervisors.

Law Offices of Christopher W. Folk


Performed outsourced legal work for local lawyer, also served in an “Of Counsel” relationship with a criminal defense firm. Responsible for a wide variety of cases within both the civil and criminal spectrum. Wrote briefs and complaints for civil matters, handled various court appearances. Drafted several appellate briefs and motions in both a civil and criminal context. Worked on a large settlement with a software company related to a contractual dispute.

Litigation and Pre-Trial matters handled in courts in: Cayuga, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, and Wayne counties. Matters ranging from violation-level offenses to misdemeanors and felonies. Handled non-compete employment disputes, also performed contract review and drafting of Master Services Agreements as well as real estate transactions, will drafting and probate matters. Responsible for client development and initial engagements.

Town of Waterloo

Town Justice

Elected in November 2011 to four-year term as Waterloo Town Justice — re-elected in November 2015. Presided over numerous bench trials and jury trials at one of the larger and busier justice courts in the County. Studied the flow of cases and effectuated changes to help reduce wait-times and maximize judicial economy.

Presided over civil and criminal matters ranging from violations to Class-A felonies, family court matters and civil proceedings. Conducted hearings, reviewed and issued arrest, bench, and search warrants. Handled jury trials, multiple bench trials, and hundreds of proceedings. Liaised with Town Supervisor and Councilmen; propose and prepare Court budget; address personnel matters. Drafted numerous decisions and orders, conducted numerous pre-trial hearings.

During my tenure I presided over approximately 1,000 criminal cases, 300 civil matters, and 6,000 vehicle and traffic matters.  Spending hundreds of hours on research and analysis, legal writing, and opinion drafting.


CyberSquire, Delta Risk, and the Institute for National Security & Counterterrorism

In these settings, I performed legal and technical analysis in the fields of data privacy and security, as well as data breach notification laws. I also developed presentation materials and technical collateral in the field of cybersecurity and data privacy.

I also worked with the Vice President and General Counsel for a firm that specialized in Cyber security. Drafted memorandums related to intellectual property and logo/trademark issues; researched and wrote articles and provided viewpoints focused on cybersecurity and data privacy breaches in the context of the legal sector and also within healthcare (HIPAA/HI-TECH). Reviewed notification policies and cyber security posture in the context of EU Data Protection. Reviewed Data Privacy Impact Assessments. Monitored cyber security events for potential data privacy/breach issues for clients in Europe and Southeast Asia.

Leadership and Management

The High Tech Industry

Worked in the Software Application Engineering R&D group. Responsible for leadership roles on cross-functional teams, dealing with external and internal customers. Focused on design verification and testing (DVT); reviewed functional design specifications; established baseline and scalability testing parameters; built test environments that were tightly coupled with other team members ongoing test efforts; opened and tracked problem reports based on testing observations; served as tertiary escalation for field issues.

Authored/Co-authored several white papers. Gathered technical content for Software API releases and created presentation materials. Delivered presentations internally as well as client facing at various conferences and technical venues.

Served as project lead on a corporate-wide initiatives, responsible for developing and delivering knowledge transfer materials and for designing and implementing program interfaces. Also responsible for developing training on new projects and existing interfaces to internal and external stakeholders.


Government & Civic

Served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves; currently a member of the Marine Corps League, the American Legion, The Seneca County Federation of Sportsmens Clubs (Secretary), SCOPE, NYSRPA, the Waterloo Rotary, the Seneca County Suicide Prevention Coalition, as well as the Tristan Foundation.
